The Physical Agility Testing is scheduled for Saturday September 9, 2017 at 8:00 AM at the West Warwick Civic Center, 100 Factory Street, West Warwick, RI in conjunction with the West Warwick Police Department's physical agility test.  Candidates who are applying to both the West Warwick and Coventry Police Departments will be taking the same agility test.  The Agility Test guidelines can be found here: RIMPA Physical Fitness Requirements

Attire required: Applicants must wear appropriate footwear, athletic shorts or running pants, and a plain white t-shirt.  Any applicant wearing inappropriate attire (cut-off jeans, printed shirts, etc.) will be told to leave and will be eliminated from the process.  

The Written Examination will take place on Wednesday September 13, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Coventry Police Training Annex 1675 Flat River Rd. Coventry, RI (approximately two [2] miles West of the Coventry Police Station).  Note: This is separate from the West Warwick Police Department's written test and MUST be taken by those applying to the Coventry Police Department. To clarify, if you are applying to both the West Warwick Police Department AND Coventry Police Department, you must take the West Warwick written test on September 9, 2017 and the Coventry Police written test on September 13, 2017.  Study Guides for the Coventry Police Department Written exam can be purchased at the following link:

Attire required: Business Attire - No jean, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, etc.

There will be no make up exams.  The fees paid are non-refundable. 


The Coventry Police Department consists of a compliment of 57 sworn officers and is supported by a professional staff of 17 employees. We provide law enforcement services to a population of approximately 36,000 residents who reside within 64 square miles. Our community is unique in that the eastern part of town is densely populated and our western section is rural. This community provides the best of both worlds. Individuals who wish to be considered for employment by the Town of Coventry as a Police Officer must, at the time of application, possess an Associate's Degree; or a minimum of sixty (60) college course credits towards a degree; or have two (2) years of active Military duty; or have four (4) years of Military Reserve/National Guard duty; or be a graduate of a certified Police or Law Enforcement Academy; and pass all testing requirements, including a written test, physical agility testing (which includes a swim test) in accordance with the RI Municipal Police Academy Physical Proficiency Standards, an oral interview, and a background investigation, and must possess a valid driver's license.

Applications from qualified individuals who have retired from Law Enforcement service in Rhode Island within the last three (3) years and who are currently certified by the Rhode Island Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training are to be accompanied by a letter of good standing from the applicant's former Chief of Police.

Candidates MUST possess a valid driver's license for entry into all phases of the selection process.


Completion of both the Fitness Test Medical Certificate and the Agility Waiver are required to participate in the physical agility test, and the original forms must be submitted by Friday September 8, 2017 at the Coventry Police Department (see above).  The forms can be downloaded above this posting in the "Job Overview" section.
