The Written test is scheduled for Wednesday April 4, 2018 at 6 PM at the Coventry High School Cafeteria and the Physical Agility Testing is scheduled for Saturday April 7th at 8:30 AM at the Coventry High School Gymnasium.  The Coventry High School is located at 40 Reservoir Rd., Coventry, RI 02816.  A government issued photo ID is required for admittance to all tests and interviews.

There will be no make up exams. The fees paid are non­refundable.


The Coventry Police Department consists of a compliment of 57 sworn officers and is supported by a professional staff of 17 employees. We provide law enforcement services to a population of approximately 36,000 residents who reside within 64 square miles. Our community is unique in that the eastern part of town is densely populated and our western section is rural. This Community provides the best of both worlds. Individuals who wish to be considered for employment by the Town of Coventry as a Police Officer at the time of application, must:

  • possess an Associate's Degree; or a minimum of sixty (60) college course credits towards a degree;
  • or have two (2) years of active Military duty; or have four (4) years of Military Reserve/National Guard duty; or be a graduate of a certified Police or Law Enforcement Academy;
  • and pass all testing requirements, including a written test, physical agility testing (which includes a RI Police Academy swim test) in accordance with the RI Municipal Police Academy Physical Proficiency Standards, an oral interview, and a background investigation;
  • and possess a valid driver’s license.

Applications from qualified individuals who have retired from Law Enforcement service in Rhode Island within the last three (3) years and who are currently certified by the Rhode Island Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training are to be accompanied by a letter of good standing from the applicant's former Chief of Police.

Completion of the Fitness Test Medical Certificate and the Informed Consent form are required to participate in the physical agility test, and MUST be submitted the day of the written test on Wednesday April 4, 2018.  Both forms can be downloaded above this posting in the "Job Overview" section. The Fitness Test Medical Certificate must be dated within six (6) months of the RI Municipal Academy Physical Agility Test, which is scheduled for June 12, 2018.
