Specialized Units: The Abington Police Department offers a variety of specialized positions,

Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants must not be a convicted felon.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of the appointment.
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts driver's license.
- Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry a firearm pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 140
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the Massachusetts P.O.S.T. Commission.
- Must be able to successfully complete a background investigation, passing a medical and psychological examination.
- Must live within 15 air miles at the time of the academy start date, unless otherwise authorized.
- Weighted consideration given to residents of Abington, those with advanced degrees and current or honorable discharged members of the military.
Benefits:
The salary range for a Police Officer is $64,958.40 (Step 1) to $95,162.50 (Step 7) per the most recent collective bargaining agreement, which includes benefits and additional incentives.
Incentives such as educational will be added to base pay based on degree: 10% for an associate’s, 20% for a bachelor’s, and 25% for a master’s. Longevity pay adds 0.5% for each year of law enforcement experience starting after five years. Employees receive paid vacation time, 13 holidays (with the option of time off or pay), personal days, and health incentive program. 7% night shift differential for evening and overnight regularly worked. Detail pay is $64 for a day rate with a 4-hour minimum and $96 on weekends. Other benefits include a uniform allowance, multiple stipend opportunities, the ability to carry over compensation days or vacation, and participate in a sick leave bank.
