PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER - FULL TIME

WATERTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
Hourly Rate $24.17 (probation)

$27.31 after 12 months

 

The Watertown Communication Department is looking to hire a full time public safety dispatcher for the midnight utility shift. The position covers the days off of the existing full time shifts, and include a day or afternoon shift monthly.  The rotation  includes weekends, holidays, and nights and can be amended in cases of staff shortages.  Applicant is preferred to have knowledge of the Watertown area, be able to multitask, and be comfortable with making sudden decisions. Computer experience is a must. A State of Connecticut telecommunicator certification is a plus. The Watertown Communications Department dispatches the Watertown Police and Fire Departments. FULL TIME EMPLOYEES RECEIVE:

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Answer 911 and routine phone calls for service.

Monitor Police, Fire and Town Highway, State Police Hotline and Mutual Aid radio traffic.

Follow Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols.

Operate NexGen Computer Aided Dispatch system, additional police related computer programs as well as Microsoft.

Provide assistance and information, as authorized, to town departments, police and fire agencies.

Assist the public in matters of general police information.

Obtain information on wanted, missing property/persons and motor vehicle/operator information from COLLECT/NCIC.

Partake in continued Powerphone education.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*Must have an exceptional ability to communicate (Verbal and written)

*Genuine ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, and public.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work under stressful situations while maintaining composure. They will be expected to make knowledge-based decisions, be professional and truthful. The dispatcher should have an ability to relay numerous details with good memory retention during and after a call for service and always maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

The hired candidate must follow policy and procedures for Communications, Police and Fire Departments, Town of Watertown Employee Handbook and State of Connecticut CJIS.
