BLOOMFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATOR
The Bloomfield Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Public Safety Telecommunicator. Responsibilities include dispatching and relaying information to Police, Fire, and EMS personnel for emergency and non-emergency situations.
This is a full-time position.
Public Safety Telecommunicators work shifts including nights and holidays.
Public Safety Telecommunicators work the “pitman” schedule, 12 hour shifts 7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am.
Benefits and Salary:
- Starting salary - $19.79 per hour.
- 13 days holiday pay paid in December each year.
- 13 paid vacation days (starting).
- 4 paid personal days (starting).
- Health and prescription drug plan.
- Enrollment in the New Jersey Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
- Initial uniforms will be provided.
- Ability to work overtime.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language well.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (ability to speak and read English).
- Typing/computer skills.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high stress environment.
- Must be in good health.
- Must be of good moral character, and shall not have been convicted of any crime or offense.

Interview Process
The following qualifications are preferred but not required to apply:
- Current Basic Telecommunicator / 9-1-1 certification
- Prior Public Safety Dispatch experience
- Prior police, fire, or EMS experience
