Entry Level and Connecticut Certified Public Safety Telecommunicator – Full Time
Open Position – Evening Shift, Saturday-Wednesday

The Ansonia Police Department is hiring a Dispatcher to work at the Ansonia Police Department which provides dispatch services to the City of Ansonia. We are currently accepting applications for both certified dispatchers and entry-level candidates. The City of Ansonia is participating in the Connecticut Police Chief’s (CPCA) hiring consortium. As such, all candidates must successfully take and pass the CPCA Dispatcher’s Exam, which is held periodically online.
How to Apply
Step 1 – You must register on PoliceApp.com in order to take the CPCA Dispatcher written exam. These tests are given at various dates. You must register on PoliceApp.com for these examinations. You must pass the CPCA Dispatcher written exam with a score of 65% prior to submitting your application.
Step 2 – Applicants who have successfully passed the written CPCA Dispatcher Exam may be called for interviews for the open position. The interviews will be held in Ansonia on dates to be determined.
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications must be met prior to employment as a dispatcher with the Ansonia Police Department:
- Applicant must be a United States Citizen
- Applicant must be 21 years of age
- Applicant must be a high school graduate (or have passed a recognized General Educational Development Test.)
- Applicant must be able to speak and understand the English language clearly.
- Applicant must be able to operate computer based communications equipment and have basic computer and phone skills.
- Applicant must have a Connecticut Driver’s License
- Successfully pass the following:
- Connecticut Police Chief’s Dispatcher Written exam with a score of 65%
- Preliminary interview and assessment
- Medical Examination / Drug Screen
- Background investigation
- State of CT telecommunicator training/certification and any other certifications deemed necessary to perform the essential job functions of an emergency Telecommunicator.
- Any other tests as may be determined for the position
Additional Preferred Qualifications (not necessary to apply)
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish or other languages
- Knowledge of local geography
- Current certification as State of Ct telecommunicator
- Previous dispatch/police experience
Disqualifiers
Any of the following will eliminate eligibility for employment with the Ansonia Police Department:
Any Felony Convictions
Any Conviction of a Class A or Class B Misdemeanor (under CT Law or in any other jurisdiction that if committed in this state, would constitute a Class A or B misdemeanor.)
Conviction of any act which would constitute perjury or false statement
Salary and Benefits
Starting Salary is $58,843. Top step after 2 years is $73,299, includes evening shift differential.

Important Information
Conditional offers of employment do not guarantee a position as a Telecommunicator. Applicant must successfully complete all phases of testing to satisfy conditional offer requirements.
The Ansonia Police Department will conduct a background investigation on selected applicants once a conditional offer of employment is given. This will include examination of each candidate’s driving history, criminal record, employment history, financial history and past/present illegal drug use. Prior conduct in police/security/corrections/dispatching fields along with basic honesty and integrity will be extensively examined.
The applicant recognizes that all statements made on or in connection with his or her application are true, complete, and correct to the best of their knowledge and belief and are made in good faith. The applicant understands that incomplete, false, inaccurate, or misleading information given in the application, interview(s), or during the course of the background investigation will result in the rejection of the job application and/or withdrawal of any conditional job offer. Any false information provided during the pre-employment phase, whether willingly or accidental, which is subsequently discovered, may result in immediate dismissal if currently employed.
