Overview

The Ansonia Police Department provides 24-hour law enforcement services to the City of Ansonia, population 18,500, which is located within New Haven County. Forty-six sworn officers respond to over 19,000 calls for service annually with twelve civilian personnel providing support. 

 

The Ansonia Police Department is comprised of three divisions:

 

·         Patrol Division

·         Investigations

·         Support Services

 

In addition to routine patrol duties, the Ansonia Police Department offers other careers opportunities as needed:

 

·         School Resource Officers

·         Canine Officer

·         Bicycle Unit

·         Field Training Officers

·         Narcotics

·         Temporary assignments with Federal Agencies (F.B.I., D.E.A.)

 

Patrol Officer Starting Salary:     $ 77, 937

·         After two years:          $ 82,659

·         After three years:       $ 84,094

·         After five years:          $ 85,779

·         After ten years:           $ 87,692

(effective July 1, 2024)

 

New recruits receive training at a Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) Academy and after successful completion; the recruit is then placed in a minimum 12-week Field Training program at the Ansonia Police Department.

 

All sworn personnel are also eligible for vacation time (2-5 weeks based on seniority), 13 paid holidays, 4 personal days, compensatory time, uniform allotment ($1,250 annually), tuition assistance and college incentive pay.  Additionally, a comprehensive medical/dental package, life insurance and State of Connecticut pension plan (C.M.E.R.S.) are included in the benefit package.  Patrol officers work a 4-2 schedule.
