PER DIEM
WATERTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
Hourly Rate $25.33 (probation)
$27.99 after 12 months
The Watertown Communication Department is seeking to hire a certified per diem public safety dispatcher at the rate of $25.33 per hour. The position could include weekends, holidays, and nights filling in dispatcher vacancies. Applicant should be able to multitask and be comfortable with making sudden decisions. The Watertown Police Department is a Tier III State of Connecticut accredited agency that proudly provides services to Watertown and Oakville. The Watertown Communications Department dispatches the Watertown Police and Fire Departments. HOURS REQUIRED:
Hours: Fill shifts where needed on all 3 shifts to possibly include holidays and weekends.
PER DIEM EMPLOYEES RECEIVE:
Second and third shift differential and Overtime where applicable
Holiday pay at 8 hours, plus 12 hours, for shift worked, overtime on holidays is double time.
You always work with a partner and are welcomed and encouraged to participate in department and community-based functions.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Answer emergency and non-emergency phone calls for service.
Monitor Police, Fire and Town Highway, State Police Hotline and Mutual Aid radio traffic.
Follow Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols.
Operate a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and multiple police related computer programs as well as Microsoft products.
Provide assistance and information as requested by other police and fire agencies.
Assist the public in matters of general police information.
Obtain information on wanted, missing property and persons and motor vehicle/operator information from COLLECT/NCIC.
Partake in continued education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
*Must have an exceptional ability to communicate (Verbal and written)
*Genuine ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, and the general public.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work under stressful situations while maintaining composure, make knowledge-based decisions, be professional and truthful, have an ability to relay numerous details with good memory retention during and after a call for service and always maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
The hired dispatcher must follow policy and procedures for Communications, Police and Fire Departments, Town of Watertown Employee Handbook and State of Connecticut CJIS.
