The Thurmont Police Department is looking for dedicated and ambitious men and women interested in a career in law enforcement who are community oriented, dedicated, display high integrity, good moral character, and who want to provide the citizens of Thurmont with efficient and quality service.

Minimum Requirements
Current Certification as a Police Officer in the State of Maryland
United States Citizen
High School Graduate or GED
Possess a valid driver’s license
Successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation which includes, but not limited to: medical and drug screening, polygraph examination, psychological screening.
Successfully pass oral interviews
Ability to meet all standards set forth by the Maryland Police Training Commission
Ability to work rotating shifts

Reasons for disqualification from the process may include, but not limited to the following:
Unstable work history
Poor driving record
Felony conviction
Illegal drug use, purchase, sale or distribution
Falsification of any application documents
Inability to complete any of the component parts of the selection process to include the background investigation.
Any other disqualifying factor as determined by the Chief of Police.
Salary:
Laterals (Maryland Certified) : $57,228.74 - $63,169.82 (dependent on years of experience)
Plus a $12,000 Sign On Bonus ($3,000 paid at final employment offer, $3,000 paid on hiring date each year for 3 additional years).
