The Thurmont Police Department is a community oriented and problem solving law enforcement agency. Our commitment to the philosophy of community policing and problem solving is an organizational strategy that encourages a working partnership between the police and the citizens of the community.

The relationship is built on a mutual trust and rests on the belief that citizens deserve input into the police process through citizen participation and support. Mission

The Thurmont Police Department is dedicated to serving the residents within the corporate limits of the Town of Thurmont. Pursuant to the protections afforded by the Constitution of the United States, we will strive to protect life and property of our citizens, and will enforce all laws of this state and local ordinances in a fair and impartial manner. 

In partnership with our citizens through Community Policing, we will strive to detect and prevent crime and provide the best quality of life for the citizens of Thurmont. We will promote professionalism of our employees by holding ourselves to the highest possible standard of integrity, ethics, and morals.

About our Community

Thurmont is a town in Northern Frederick County, Maryland with a population of approximately 6,935. The town covers approximately 3.13 square miles and is located approximately ten miles from the Pennsylvania border, along U.S. Highway 15. It is very close to Cunningham Falls State Park and Catoctin Mountain Park, the latter of which contains the presidential retreat of Camp David. Thurmont is also home to Catoctin Colorfest, an arts and crafts festival that draws in about 125,000 people each autumn.
