The Ocean City Police Department is actively seeking certified out of state police officers who are willing to make a lateral change to Ocean City, Maryland.
As an out-of-state certified lateral entry candidate, the number of training hours and objectives you obtained and completed through your state certification must be comparable to that required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. If you meet that standard, you will be required to attend 200 hours of comparative compliance concerning Maryland laws. After completion of this training, you will participate in an eight (8) week Field Training and Evaluation Program conducted by the Ocean City Police Department.
If your out-of-state certification does not meet Maryland’s requirement, then you will be required to attend a full entry-level police academy through the State of Maryland. After completion of this training, you will participate in a twelve (12) week Field Training and Evaluation Program conducted by the Ocean City Police Department.
Lateral entry officer will be subject to the same process as other police officer applicants. Processing of the applicant will include a written examination, physical abilities test, oral interview, background investigation, physical examination, and psychological evaluation.
Salary & Benefits
- $ 68,800.00 to $100,054.00 PFC PayScale
- $5,000 signing bonus for out of state certified
- Laterals start as a PFC and pay is based on service credit, up to 9 years credit available
- Step increments with acceptable performance appraisals

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a certified out-of-state police officer
- High School Diploma or GED recognized by the Maryland Board of Education
- 21 years of age at the time of employment
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- United States Citizen

Medical Requirements
- Good physical and mental condition
- Vision correctable to 20/20 with the ability to recognize basic colors
Hiring Process
Candidates must submit an application, successfully complete a written examination, physical abilities test, structured virtual interview, background investigation, polygraph examination, medical examination, and psychological evaluation.
TESTING PROCESS:
All testing will be completed at the Ocean City Police Department. All applicants will complete a written examination. All applicants will then have to complete the physical abilities portion and structured interview.

- Once an applicant successfully completes the written examination, physical abilities test, and structured interview, they will then be provided a background investigation packet to submit.
