POSTC Certified Police Officer


The New Canaan Police Department, a CALEA accredited agency, is currently accepting applications from current Connecticut POSTC Certified Police Officers for the position of Police Officer.  Applicants must have a minimum of two years Connecticut POSTC certification and be in good standing with their current department.  Out-of-state comparative certifications will not be considered for this process.  This process will remain open until the positions are filled.


Salary & Benefits

  • Salary range as of July 1, 2018 is $64,250—$89,709. Officers hired as laterals will start at Step 3 Salary ($69,866 as of July 1, 2018).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Connecticut POSTC Certified Police Officer with a minimum of 2 years certification.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a G.E.D, college degree preferred.
  • Be at least 21 years of age. 
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and/or the ability to get a State of Connecticut operator’s license.
  • No conviction by a court of any felony, any class A or class B misdemeanor or have committed any act which would constitute perjury or false statement.
  • No previous dismissal from a former law enforcement unit for malfeasance or other serious misconduct or resignation or retirement while under investigation for such malfeasance or serious misconduct.


Testing & Selection

  • Applicants must have achieved a passing score of at least 70% on the CPCA Certified Police Officer Exam within 6 months prior to application submission.
  • Must have a valid C.H.I.P. Card as of application submission date.

  • Peer Interview Panel
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Examination
  • Police Commission Interview(s)
  • Background Investigation
  • Medical Testing & Drug Screening
