Candidates must be available to work all shifts for a 24/7 operation, including weekends and holidays; possess strong problem-solving abilities with a high level of integrity, and have effective verbal and written communication skills.



Competitive salary and benefits package. Starting salary range is commensurate with years of experience and assigned shift differential. Additional compensation is available through educational incentive pay and longevity pay for qualified applicants, as well as through special event details and overtime assignments. The Dover Police Department is a full-service police staffed by sixteen full time police officers. They are trained, equipped and ready to handle any type of situation that may manifest itself. The officers do their utmost to prevent crime, educate the public and assist in the resolution of problems. In addition, they stand ready to investigate any of the few crimes that are committed and diligently work to identify those responsible for crime and prosecute them for the offenses. In addition to their singular duties, the department also operates the emergency communications center. They receive calls for a whole host of both emergency and non-emergency public services, including the fire department, ambulance/EMT service and the animal control officer, and dispatch the necessary departments to deal with the request. The communications center and department is fully staffed seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.



  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States as a police officer
  • High School Graduate/GED Equivalent. Candidates possessing higher education degrees may receive hiring preference.
  • Be a United States citizen (birth or naturalized).
  • Be at least 21 years old by the date of appointment.
  • Must have an active Massachusetts driver's license.
  • Be a Non-Smoker and remain a Non-Smoker.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Firearms License to Carry.
  • No tattoos on the neck, hands, or face.
  • Must have passed the PES written exam.
  • Must pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
  • Must have the ability to pass a thorough background and psychological examination prior to employment.
  • Must pass interstate criminal and a driver's history.
  • Must pass oral interviews.
  • Must pass medical examination.
  • Must have completed a full-time police academy, in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 96B, and be POST Certified.


The Dover Police Department is seeking highly motivated, community-oriented, service-minded full- time police officers. Candidates must meet the Minimum Requirements and have successfully completed a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) full-time police academy, in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 96B, and be POST Certified.

Candidates must pass the PES written entry exam with a 70% and above, and will be subjected to an extensive background investigation, medical evaluation, psychological screening, and Physical Abilities Test (PAT).


Must pass the PES Entry Exam for the role of Police Officer with a 70% and above.
