Job Announcement

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is currently accepting applications for the position of “County Sheriff’s Officer” in accordance with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) Intergovernmental Transfer (IGT) Program.

In accordance with the IGT program, applicants must currently be employed as a sworn officer in a New Jersey Civil Service law enforcement agency for at least two (2) years (post academy graduation date).

Applicants must have graduated from a New Jersey PTC certified law enforcement academy and be in possession of a New Jersey Police Training Commission certificate.

Bergen County consists of approximately 245 square miles with 70 municipalities and over 900,000 residents.  The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office is a professional, accredited agency which is responsible for providing a variety of law enforcement services to the residents of Bergen County.

Eligible officers from the BCSO are afforded the opportunity to be members of the Court Security Unit, Special Services Unit, Patrol Unit, K-9 Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Warrant Squad, Regional SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Regional Crisis Negotiation Team, Training Unit, Community Outreach Unit and other specialized units.

The Intergovernmental Transfer Program provides the opportunity for eligible New Jersey state and local government employees with permanent Civil Service status to transfer between state and local employment jurisdictions while maintaining their permanent status. All parties involved in the transfer (the transferring employee, the sending jurisdiction, the receiving jurisdiction, and the New Jersey Civil Service Commission) must agree to the transfer for it to be completed.
