This comprehensive two-part training program equips law enforcement officers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to identify and assess cannabis-related impairment in drivers. Given that modern cannabis products contain significantly higher THC concentrations and are available in diverse formats including edibles, concentrates, and flower, officers increasingly need specialized training to effectively detect impairment. The course combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory experience to develop proficiency in this critical area.

Participants will explore current cannabis market trends, relevant legal frameworks, behavioral indicators of impairment, and specialized field sobriety testing techniques designed specifically for cannabis detection. The training culminates in a controlled "Green Lab" component where officers perform real-world impairment evaluations, allowing them to apply classroom concepts in realistic scenarios.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify contemporary cannabis products and their effects on driver impairment
  • Execute enhanced SFST protocols tailored for cannabis impairment detection
  • Recognize behavioral and physical signs indicative of THC-related impairment
  • Employ best practices for documenting cannabis-impaired driving investigations and developing strong court cases
  • Perform real-time impairment assessments during the hands-on Green Lab, evaluating accuracy and methodology

Important Note: Participants will not be exposed to cannabis or any controlled substances during this training.

Equipment: No special equipment required. Duty weapons are prohibited throughout the course.
