Course Overview
This engaging, interactive course delivers an in-depth examination of the foundational concepts that guide internal affairs investigations, emphasizing police accountability, procedural fairness, and equitable treatment. Participants will examine the complete internal investigation framework from multiple viewpoints, including perspectives of the officer under investigation, union representation, attorneys, internal investigation personnel, and oversight entities responsible for determining the outcomes of personnel complaints. The training emphasizes investigative methodologies designed to produce fact-based, impartial conclusions while building institutional credibility and safeguarding the interests of all parties. Additionally, the course examines organizational practices that may compromise investigative integrity and presents actionable policy recommendations.
Course Objectives
- Gain comprehensive understanding of the complete internal affairs process spanning from initial complaint filing through final determination, including the roles of all stakeholders.
