Overview
This intensive training program addresses the rising concern of gas station drugs and their connection to impaired driving incidents. The course is tailored for law enforcement officers, regulatory professionals, and specialists focused on impaired driving investigations who need to understand and identify emerging gas station drugs and their effects on vehicle operation. Participants will develop essential knowledge about these substances, including their identification, health risks, and the impairment indicators that become apparent during roadside assessments and formal Drug Influence Evaluations.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Establish a clear definition of gas station drugs, encompassing products such as tianeptine, kratom, phenibut, synthetic cannabinoids, energy stimulants, and other over-the-counter psychoactive substances
- Recognize gas station drugs through their visual characteristics, including packaging design, label information, marketing tactics, color patterns, container styles, brand messaging, and typical retail display locations
- Evaluate driving impairment risk factors and explain the relationship between these substances and dangerous vehicle operation
- Connect commonly found gas station drugs to the Drug Recognition Expert framework, describing their chemical classifications, anticipated physiological responses, and observable signs of impairment during a Drug Influence Evaluation
