Field Training Officer

This innovative course represents the first program of its kind in the nation, specifically designed for field training officers operating in the modern era. The instruction employs a contemporary, dynamic approach to create an engaging and comprehensive learning environment that equips participants to effectively train and mentor newly hired recruits.

The curriculum is anchored in the San Jose Model and incorporates industry-leading practices that have been legally validated through federal court proceedings. Participants will explore how the Field Training and Evaluation Program functions within personnel selection processes and will examine the specific responsibilities and competencies required of field training officers.

The course covers essential documentation methods and legally defensible standardized evaluation techniques through both didactic instruction and hands-on practice activities. Attendees will gain insight into FTO program structure and learn strategies for customizing these frameworks to align with their agency's unique needs. Particular emphasis is placed on designing remedial training action plans to address performance gaps identified during trainee development.

Upon completion, participants will possess the knowledge necessary to implement meaningful enhancements to their agency's existing training initiatives.
