Confidential Informants & Source Development
This course emphasizes the critical importance of human intelligence in modern criminal investigations. While technology, surveillance, records, and digital evidence all contribute to investigative efforts, human sources offer unique advantages—including access to information, contextual details, motivation, intent, organizational structure, and future plans that may never surface in databases, reports, or search warrant documentation.
Participants will develop practical skills in identifying high-value human sources, establishing rapport, cultivating long-term relationships, validating information, and distinguishing accurate intelligence from false leads. The training bridges the gap between traditional informant management and building a comprehensive intelligence capability that supports both investigation and operational planning.
Key topics include recognizing individuals with intelligence value, developing and maintaining source relationships, evaluating information reliability, and converting raw intelligence into actionable investigative opportunities.
