Course Overview

Time is critical in emergency communications. When Spanish-speaking callers reach your dispatch center, language barriers can create dangerous delays that put lives at risk. Without immediate communication skills, you may miss vital details about medical emergencies, suspect information, or officer safety concerns. This course addresses that gap by equipping emergency telecommunicators with practical Spanish language abilities for handling 911 calls from Spanish speakers.

Rather than waiting for interpreter availability, participants will develop the competency to gather essential emergency information directly from Spanish-speaking callers. The course teaches fundamental Spanish vocabulary and phrases specific to emergency dispatch scenarios, enabling call-takers to determine the type of emergency, pinpoint locations, obtain suspect descriptions, and provide caller reassurance—all while maintaining control of the conversation.
