This comprehensive 40-hour course, offered by the Institute of Police Technology and Management, equips law enforcement professionals with the essential knowledge, skills, and techniques required to conduct effective interviews during criminal investigations. Recognizing that interviews form a cornerstone of investigative success—with most case information being gathered and cases being resolved through quality interviewing—the course provides officers with proven methodologies and a professional approach applicable across all investigative contexts.
The curriculum is organized around two central components: thorough interview preparation and proper interview execution. Throughout the course, participants examine relevant case law that governs interview and interrogation practices.

- Special considerations when interviewing juveniles

Whether officers are interviewing witnesses to homicides, traffic incidents, or domestic violence cases, or conducting interviews with inmates or probationers regarding contraband, this course provides universally applicable techniques for obtaining accurate information and achieving investigative success. The instruction emphasizes professional and ethical practices that lead to stronger case outcomes.
Intended Audience
This course serves patrol officers, recently assigned and experienced detectives, investigations supervisors, crime scene technicians, medical examiner and coroner investigators, and military investigative personnel. Enrollment is restricted to sworn law enforcement officers and personnel directly assigned to law enforcement agencies.
