Overview:
This comprehensive training course is tailored for law enforcement professionals, private investigators, prosecuting attorneys, human resource specialists, and anyone whose work involves interviewing subjects or analyzing written and verbal communications. The program explores the three primary methods through which deception occurs: writing, body language, and verbal statements.
Research by leading psychologists, including Dr. Paul Eckman, has demonstrated that most people—including experienced law enforcement officers—lack adequate training in distinguishing truthfulness from deception. This course addresses that gap by teaching skills grounded in reliable aspects of human behavior that have remained consistent over time. Participants will examine real-world case examples and engage in practical exercises to master techniques for identifying deceptive behavior and determining the specific points within statements where falsehoods occur.
Course Content:
Handwriting Analysis
The training begins with examination of handwriting as a window into the writer's personality and thought processes. Students will learn to recognize indicators of aggression, truthfulness, and deception within written samples—details that are frequently missed in standard investigations.
Body Language (Kinesics)
This section focuses on interpreting nonverbal communication during interviews. The course covers communicative elements including hand movements, foot positioning, eye contact, posture, vocal tone, and physical contact to help investigators assess whether subjects are being forthright or concealing information.
Statement Analysis
Participants learn to evaluate both written and verbal statements, including 911 calls. The training covers statement structure, pronoun usage, length analysis, and identification of verbal red flags. An FBI study showed that departments utilizing statement analysis achieved 6% higher clearance rates. Students will practice identifying areas of dishonesty and information withholding to direct follow-up questioning more effectively.
Learning Materials: Each student receives a comprehensive resource guide for future reference and application. The fast-paced instruction combines educational content with engaging delivery, ensuring participants gain practical skills applicable to investigations, professional interactions, and everyday observations.
