Course Overview

AdminEdge is a comprehensive year-long legal training program designed specifically for administrative and executive assistants working in Massachusetts police departments. The curriculum focuses on the laws and procedures governing the daily work of police department administrative staff, including public records management, subpoena handling, POST submissions, personnel file administration, leave and accommodation requests, and related compliance matters. Rather than emphasizing leadership or command skills, this program equips administrative professionals with the legal knowledge and practical tools needed to handle the complex documents and requests that typically reach their desks before reaching command staff or legal counsel.

What Is AdminEdge?

AdminEdge is a year-long legal training program for the administrative and executive assistants in Massachusetts police departments. It is not a leadership or command course. The subject is the law governing what already crosses your desk: records requests, subpoenas, POST submissions, personnel files, leave paperwork, and the walk-in nobody else wanted to take. Almost all of it reaches an administrator before it reaches command staff or counsel. By the time a lawyer sees the file, most of what mattered about it has already happened.

The program runs on one framework, which is also the spine of the AdminEdge Guide:

  • Intake
  • Log
  • Triage
  • Preserve
  • Escalate
  • Respond
  • Document
  • Retain

What's Included

  • Eleven live monthly sessions. All recorded and posted within 48 hours.
  • The AdminEdge Guide, 2026–2027 Edition. A 200-page working reference, fifteen sections and thirteen appendices of logs, trackers, and toolkits. It opens with a Quick Reference Tool covering ten situations and the right first move for each.
  • Fillable versions of every appendix, as editable Word and Excel files.
  • The Legal Literacy Micro-Learning Series. Twelve short lessons, mid-month.
  • The AdminEdge Google Group. A private list of administrative professionals across the Commonwealth.
  • A submitted-question inbox. Send questions ahead of time, anonymously if you prefer. Recurring ones get answered on the record at the next session.
  • Access to the MPI Public Records Program.
  • One on-demand legal training program of your choice from the MPI catalog.
  • Certificate of completion with an attendance record for the personnel file.

Who Should Enroll

Administrative assistants, executive assistants, office managers, and records clerks in Massachusetts police departments. Civilian staff who share records, personnel, payroll, or compliance duties get the same use out of it. No legal background is assumed or required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to attend live? No. Every session is recorded and posted within 48 hours.

What if I have to miss a session? Watch the recording. The materials for each session are posted alongside it.

Why is there no December session? December is the hardest month to protect an hour in, and a number of participants are finishing other MPI coursework at the same time. The December micro-lesson goes out as usual.

How is this different from the Public Records certification? The certification is a three-week intensive on one subject, public records law, and it ends with an exam and a credential. AdminEdge is a year of training across everything else the administrative desk handles, from POST submissions to personnel files to wage and hour. They complement each other, and AdminEdge includes access to the Public Records program.

What happens if the person we enroll leaves the department? The seat transfers to whoever takes over the role, at no additional charge. Email dawn@mpitraining.com with the new name.

Does the enrollment renew automatically? No. It is a single charge for one program year. Renewing is a decision you make again next summer.

Which fiscal year does this fall in? The charge is billed once at enrollment, so it lands in the fiscal year in which you purchase it, even though the program runs into the following one.

Can my department pay by purchase order? Yes. After registration, an invoice will be emailed reflecting the PO number.

Can I submit a question anonymously? Yes. Questions get answered generally at the next session, not attributed.

Is there a certificate? Yes. MPI issues a Certificate of Completion, with an attendance record, to anyone who attends or views at least nine of the eleven sessions.

Do I need any legal background? No. The program does not assume one.

Program Cost

Only $699 per participant. This includes a full year of access to all benefits listed above (valued at over $899 if purchased individually).
