Trauma Informed Policing

The Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council's Field Services Training Division is conducting a one-day course on trauma-informed policing scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, 2027, running from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Connecticut Police Academy located at 285 Preston Avenue in Meriden, 06450.

This course is designed to provide officers with an understanding of the trauma-informed approach to policing. Participants will explore the nature of trauma and its manifestations, examine how trauma affects both first responders and the public they serve, learn about trauma intervention strategies, and develop skills in trauma-informed interviewing techniques. The program also addresses specialized scenarios and the importance of staying current on trauma-informed practices.

The instructor for this training will be Deputy Chief (Ret.) James Harris and staff from the J. Harris Academy of Police Training.

There is no tuition for this course. Lunch options are available for purchase at nearby restaurants. The uniform dress code specified in POST General Notice 23-02 applies to all in-service training and must be observed by attendees.
