Basic Instructor Development (BID/MOI)

The Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council's Field Services Training Division is conducting a five-day intensive program in Basic Instructor Development. The course runs from Monday, February 22, 2027, through Friday, February 26, 2027, at the Connecticut Police Academy located at 285 Preston Avenue in Meriden, Connecticut 06450. Daily sessions meet from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday, with Friday sessions concluding at 12:00 PM. The course is led by Lieutenants Thomas Wardowski from the Milford Police Department and Christopher DiFalco from the Ridgefield Police Department.

This program qualifies as an approved methods of instruction course, enabling graduates to pursue POST instructor certification. Candidates must have completed at least three years of satisfactory service as a law enforcement officer to be eligible. Given limited availability, priority consideration goes to applicants who already hold a provisional law enforcement instructor certificate; applicants seeking preferred status should submit a separate request to post.fieldservices@ct.gov.

Participants are required to demonstrate competency through a ten-minute videotaped instructional presentation to receive course completion certification. Before the course begins, students should select a training topic they wish to teach, develop a corresponding lesson plan, and prepare to deliver both oral and written presentations during the program.

The course accommodates up to thirty-five attendees. Registration must be completed through the Acadis portal by Monday, February 1, 2027. Students should bring their own laptop computers, as they will be used throughout the training. Attendees must comply with the POST In-Service training uniform dress code (General Notice 23-02).
