Crimes Against Children

This intensive 24-hour training program provides law enforcement professionals with comprehensive instruction on investigating crimes perpetrated against children. Participants will explore investigative methodologies and practical techniques applicable throughout the entire case management process, from initial report through courtroom proceedings.

The curriculum examines the behavioral patterns and characteristics of seven distinct categories of child molesters, combined with evidence-based interviewing strategies designed for use with offenders. Participants will develop competency in conducting forensic interviews with child victims and witnesses. Real-world case studies are utilized to illustrate evidence classification systems and their relevance to child crime investigations.

A significant focus of the course addresses warrant preparation, specifically teaching officers how to develop expert search and seizure warrants targeting preferential child molesters, including techniques for securing child pornography, child erotica, DNA evidence, and digital evidence. The program also covers amber alert protocols and best practices for initial response to child abduction cases. Participants will learn how to establish a Child Abduction Response Team (CART)—a coordinated, multi-agency task force of specialized professionals—and understand how such teams enhance recovery operations for missing children.

Prerequisites: Completion of a basic investigations course or equivalent knowledge of fundamental investigative techniques is recommended but not required.

Target Audience: This course is designed for patrol officers, detective personnel (new and experienced), investigations supervisors, crime scene technicians, military investigators, non-sworn investigation support staff, and prosecutor's office personnel involved in investigating and prosecuting crimes against children. Enrollment is restricted to active sworn and non-sworn law enforcement personnel, investigators, and prosecuting attorneys employed by governmental agencies.
