911 Telecommunicators: Response to Missing and Abducted Children (911 TMAC)

This interactive training program prepares 911 telecommunicators to serve as the critical first responders in missing children cases. Participants will acquire the essential knowledge and competencies required to effectively manage these time-sensitive situations and facilitate the safe return of missing children.

Course Overview:

Through examination of real-world cases and scenario-based learning activities, attendees will develop the ability to recognize different categories of missing children incidents and understand how these cases are initially reported to dispatch centers. The curriculum emphasizes practical application of industry standards including NCIC, APCO, and ANSI systems to optimize response protocols. Participants will also explore critical stress management and resilience-building strategies designed to support the mental health and well-being of telecommunicators working these demanding cases.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the vital role 911 telecommunicators play as the first responder in missing child incidents
  • Differentiate among various types of missing children cases and recognize how they are reported to dispatch
  • Apply best practices using NCIC, APCO, and ANSI systems and standards to missing children calls
  • Recognize mental health challenges specific to 911 telecommunicators and implement resilience-building strategies
  • Participate in hands-on scenario-based activities to strengthen practical skills

Target Audience:

This training is designed for 911 telecommunicators, supervisors or command staff overseeing telecommunicator operations, law enforcement professionals, and law enforcement support personnel.

Schedule and Location:

Training runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The primary session is scheduled for September 17, 2026, in Albany, NY at the VISN Building 67, 67 Veterans Way, Albany, NY 12208. An additional session is available September 22, 2026, in Greenville, TX.

Cost and Registration:

There is no fee to attend this training. However, pre-registration is required, with a registration deadline of August 20, 2026. Late registrations may be accepted based on availability and attendee qualifications. Tuition, materials, and instructional costs are sponsored by the AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program. Attendance approval is contingent upon host agency approval and submitted qualification verification.
