This three-day intensive workshop offers comprehensive hands-on instruction in the methods and techniques for locating, documenting, and recovering human skeletal remains in both buried and surface contexts. Participants will gain practical experience and knowledge in forensic anthropological practices essential for crime scene investigation and recovery operations.

  • Introduction to Forensic Anthropology
  • Human versus Non-Human Bone Identification
  • Human Osteology
  • Postmortem Modification to Human Remains
  • Recovery of Surface Scattered Skeletal Remains
  • Recovery of Buried Human Remains

What to Bring: Participants should wear outdoor field-appropriate attire, including sturdy closed-toed boots, long pants, and a hat. Additional recommended items include sunscreen, a jacket, insect repellent, water, and snacks. All specialized equipment will be provided; however, participants may optionally bring additional screens, shovels, or buckets if available.

Please note that Suncoast Forensics has not arranged a hotel block, so attendees should contact hotels directly for available rates.

Approvals: This training is approved for IAI Crime Scene Certification and ABMDI Continuing Education credit.

Attendance & Cancellation Policy: Full attendance is required to receive a certificate of completion. Cancellations must be submitted to meredith@suncoastforensics.com at least 15 calendar days before the class start date. Cancellations submitted within 15 days of the class are subject to a $200 fee. No-shows will result in forfeiture of the registration fee and no refund, unless a documented emergency has occurred. Registered participants may arrange for agency substitutions by contacting Suncoast Forensics with updated student information.
