Course Overview

This one-day training program addresses the critical skill of verbal de-escalation within correctional facility environments. The course emphasizes the importance of de-escalation in jails from multiple perspectives. By employing calming techniques during tense interactions, correctional staff can mitigate the risk of injury to themselves, inmates, and others present. This approach reduces reliance on physical force, thereby decreasing both physical and psychological trauma.

Beyond immediate safety benefits, effective de-escalation contributes to a more constructive correctional atmosphere. When inmates experience being heard and treated with respect, they are less prone to disruptive behavior, resulting in a more peaceful environment for all participants. Additionally, de-escalation opens pathways for meaningful dialogue, enabling staff to identify and address the root causes of tension and conflict, ultimately preventing future incidents and fostering institutional stability.
