Cellebrite Chip-Off Forensics (CCOF)
Cellebrite Chip-Off Forensics Training (CCOF)
Course Level: Expert | Duration: 5 Days (35 Hours) | Delivery: In-Person | Certificate: Certificate of Attendance
Course Overview
Cellebrite Chip-Off Forensics (CCOF) is a specialized expert-level program designed for forensic professionals who need to master advanced extraction methodologies when conventional mobile forensic approaches are no longer viable. Delivered over five days in an intensive, hands-on format, this course equips examiners with the technical expertise necessary to safely extract memory chips from severely damaged, non-functional, or physically compromised mobile devices while preserving forensic integrity and evidence validity.
What You Will Learn
Throughout this comprehensive training program, participants will develop competency in the following areas:
- Determining when chip-off extraction is the appropriate and necessary approach for mobile device investigations
- Understanding different flash memory architectures and how these variations influence extraction methodologies and outcomes
- Researching device specifications and memory chip configurations to assess extraction feasibility
- Employing safe chip removal procedures utilizing milling, infrared heat application, and polishing methodologies
- Preparing and cleaning memory chips to suitable standards for subsequent data extraction
- Executing physical data extractions using memory chip adapters and compatible extraction tools
- Interpreting and analyzing data recovered through successful chip-off extraction procedures
- Addressing legal and evidentiary requirements specific to chip-off extraction methodologies
Hands-On Training Components
The course emphasizes practical application with detailed focus on chip-off milling techniques, infrared heat application procedures, and polishing methodologies. Participants gain direct experience with multiple flash memory types including NAND, NOR, eMMC/eMCP, and UFS technologies. Training covers complete memory chip removal and preparation workflows, utilization of adapters and specialized tools for physical extraction, and recovery of data from completed chip-off extractions while maintaining forensic chain of custody requirements.
When This Training Is Critical
This advanced course is essential when severely damaged, non-functional, or physically compromised mobile devices prevent the use of standard forensic extraction procedures. In such scenarios, chip-off techniques may represent the only viable pathway to evidence recovery and case resolution.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of the CCO + CCPA Certification Path is strongly recommended prior to attending CCOF. This foundational training ensures participants possess familiarity with standard forensic extraction workflows, proper evidence handling procedures, and basic physical extraction concepts before progressing to advanced chip-off methodologies.
Optional Training Kits
Optional practice kits are available for students who wish to continue developing chip-off skills beyond the classroom setting. These kits include chip-off extraction tools such as milling, infrared heat, and polishing equipment, as well as flash memory adapters for NAND/NOR, eMMC/eMCP, and UFS technologies, plus protective workspace setup. Additional fees apply to kit purchases, and kits are not required for course completion or attendance.
