Course Overview

This specialized training program is designed for emergency service telecommunicators and dispatch personnel who need to develop competency in crisis intervention and critical incident response. Participants will explore foundational crisis intervention techniques while gaining practical knowledge in managing various high-risk scenarios including active shooter situations, hostage takeovers, kidnappings, and encounters with barricaded individuals experiencing mental health crises or suicidal ideation.

The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based intervention strategies for working with individuals in mental health emergencies or experiencing suicidal ideation. Participants will also learn essential protocols and best practices for coordinating responses to critical incidents. Throughout the course, real-world case studies drawn from the instructor's extensive background as a police hostage and crisis negotiator provide valuable context and practical illustrations of the concepts presented.

In addition to comprehensive instruction, the course incorporates dedicated time for hands-on skill practice and progressive refinement of techniques, allowing participants to develop confidence and competency in these specialized communication and crisis intervention skills.
