Interviews and Interrogations

This comprehensive 40-hour course equips law enforcement officers with essential knowledge and practical skills needed to conduct effective interviews during investigations. Since most case information emerges through skilled interviewing and many cases are ultimately resolved through proper interview techniques, mastering these competencies is vital for investigative success.

The curriculum emphasizes two main components: thorough preparation before an interview and effective execution during the interview itself. Additionally, the course covers relevant legal principles and case law that govern interviews and interrogations.

Course Topics

  • Legal considerations in interviews and interrogations
  • Pre-interview preparation strategies
  • Core interviewing techniques
  • Kinesics and non-verbal communication in interviews
  • Identifying deceptive behavior
  • Conducting productive interviews
  • Specialized approaches for interviewing minors
  • Techniques for interviewing assault victims
  • Eyewitness identification procedures
  • Hands-on practical exercises and scenario-based training

By mastering proper preparation, evidence-based techniques, and applicable legal standards, law enforcement professionals can gather reliable information and enhance investigations across all operational areas. The practical skills developed in this course foster professional and ethical interviewing practices that lead to stronger case outcomes.
