This comprehensive course equips law enforcement officers with the essential knowledge, abilities, and professional approach required to conduct effective interviews throughout the investigative process. Recognizing that most investigative information is gathered and numerous cases are resolved through skillful interviewing, this program provides officers with proven methodologies applicable across diverse scenarios—from homicide witness interviews to traffic accident investigations, domestic violence cases, and institutional settings involving inmates or probationers.

The curriculum is structured around two fundamental components: thorough interview preparation and successful interview execution. Additionally, participants will examine pertinent case law applicable to interviews and interrogations.

Mastering professional interviewing techniques is fundamental for law enforcement personnel across all roles. Through implementing appropriate preparation, established techniques, and applicable legal frameworks, officers can obtain reliable information and enhance investigations in any assignment. This course develops the competencies necessary for conducting professional, ethical, and effective interviews that contribute to successful investigative outcomes.

Target Audience

This course is designed for patrol officers, detectives new to investigations or experienced in the field, investigations supervisors, crime scene technicians, medical examiner and coroner investigators, and military investigative personnel. Enrollment is restricted to sworn law enforcement officers and personnel directly assigned to law enforcement agencies.
