Interviews and Interrogations

Interviewing serves as a foundational component of investigative work, with the majority of investigative leads and case resolutions stemming from well-conducted interviews. This comprehensive program equips law enforcement officers with the competencies, practical abilities, methodologies, and professional approach essential for performing interviews with confidence and effectiveness. The techniques presented can be applied across diverse scenarios—from interviewing witnesses in homicide cases to those involved in traffic collisions or domestic violence situations, as well as speaking with inmates or individuals under supervision about potential contraband—all utilizing the same evidence-based interviewing methodology.

The curriculum is organized around two fundamental components: pre-interview planning and interview implementation. Additionally, relevant case law applicable to interview and interrogation practices is reviewed and discussed.

Mastering interviewing skills is fundamental for law enforcement professionals at all levels. Through thoughtful preparation, application of validated techniques, and adherence to legal standards, officers can obtain reliable information and advance investigations throughout their careers. The capabilities developed in this program support professional, lawful, and productive interviews that enhance investigative outcomes.

Intended Participants

This course is appropriate for patrol officers, detectives new to investigations and those with extensive experience, investigation unit supervisors, crime scene specialists, death investigation professionals, and military criminal investigators. Enrollment is restricted to certified law enforcement officers and personnel employed directly by law enforcement agencies.
