Course Overview

This comprehensive training program equips law enforcement officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and interdict drug smuggling operations. Participants will gain insight into the sophisticated concealment methods employed by smugglers to hide contraband within vehicles, as well as the tactics used by drug trafficking organizations.

The course has been certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training for 20 hours of mandatory continuing education credit. Officers may apply for POST credit upon course completion.

Course Objectives

Upon completion, attendees will be able to:

• Analyze current smuggling patterns and contraband trafficking trends
• Understand the expansion and operational methods of Mexican Cartel organizations
• Distinguish between lawful traffic stops, consensual encounters, and other law enforcement interactions
• Execute safe traffic stops and transition them into criminal interdiction arrests
• Conduct effective conversational questioning and concealed interviews
• Request consent legally and appropriately
• Deploy K-9 units according to proper procedures and applicable case law
• Perform comprehensive vehicle searches
• Recognize indicators of criminal activity
• Apply search and seizure laws including search incident to arrest, probable cause, and consent-based searches
• Locate contraband hidden in complex vehicle compartments
• Collect and preserve evidence including cellular devices and pocket contents
• Execute proper currency seizures using asset forfeiture procedures
• Identify and safely handle dangerous drugs including Fentanyl, Tranq, 2CI, 2CE, GHB, Khat, PCP, Flakka, Molly, and liquid methamphetamine
• Understand connections between drug trafficking and terrorist networks
• Maintain officer safety while conducting legal and ethical interdiction operations

Students will receive comprehensive training materials including:

• Real-world in-car camera footage documenting actual criminal interdiction arrests and contraband discoveries
• Over 150 photographs and detailed illustrations of concealment compartments and actual seizures
• Current legal case law relevant to interdiction operations
• A reference manual for courtroom use and future professional development
