The Waterford Township Police Department is a professional, community-focused law enforcement agency proudly accredited by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. This accreditation reflects the department’s commitment to excellence, accountability, and adherence to best practices in modern policing.

The department is comprised of 19 full-time sworn officers, supported by 2 Class II officers and 2 Class III School Resource Officers. The agency’s leadership structure includes a Chief of Police, one Captain, two Lieutenants, and four Sergeants, ensuring strong supervision, mentorship, and operational efficiency across all divisions.

Officers have the opportunity to serve in a variety of specialized units, allowing for career growth and professional development. These include the Criminal Investigations Division, Accident Reconstruction Unit, Special Response Team (SRT), K-9 Unit, and certified Drug Recognition Experts (DREs). These assignments provide officers with advanced training and the ability to develop expertise in critical areas of law enforcement.

The department also offers a take-home vehicle program under the Lexington Plan, enhancing officer readiness and providing added convenience.

About Us

Waterford Township, New Jersey, is a diverse community spanning approximately 36 square miles, characterized by a blend of rural landscapes, residential neighborhoods, and commercial areas. Home to roughly 10,500 residents, the township maintains a small-town atmosphere where community connections remain strong and personal.

The township’s educational system plays an important role in daily community life. Young students attend one of three elementary schools—Atco Elementary School, Thomas Richards School, and Waterford Elementary School—serving children from kindergarten through sixth grade.
