SWANSEA POLICE DEPARTMENT
Civilian Dispatch Position

The Swansea Police Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for part-time, per diem police dispatcher positions. These roles have the potential to lead to full-time employment.
As the Primary PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) for all 911 calls within the Town of Swansea, the Police Department handles initial emergency calls and transfers fire and medical-related emergencies to the Swansea Fire Department. The dispatcher’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering emergency and non-emergency calls for police service, dispatching police units using radio and computer related systems, operating computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and other communication equipment, assisting with walk-in requests for service, and providing information and assistance to the public.
Current pay scale is $25.00 dollars per hour.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to obtain the following certifications:
- Massachusetts 911 Certification
- CJIS Next Test Certification
- Willingness to become familiar with:
- IMC Dispatch Software
- IMC LAN
Required Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task in high-stress environments
- Comfortable operating multiple computers, telephones, and communication systems
- Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies
Additional Requirements:
- Must pass a medical screening
- Subject to a thorough background investigation
- Must become familiar with:
- Swansea Police Department policies and procedures
- General layout of the Town of Swansea
