The Rhode Island Airport Police is a fully authorized, duly sworn, full service, law enforcement agency of the State of Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Airport Corporation is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/American with Disabilities Act Employer with a strong commitment to diversity. The Rhode Island Airport Corporation does not discriminate on the basis of gender, disability, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political affiliation, marital status, national origin, veteran’s status, or religion. We participate in E-Verify.

The mission of the Rhode Island Airport Police Department is to serve all passengers, visitors, and employees within our jurisdiction with respect, fairness, and compassion. We are committed to aviation safety and security, prevention of crime and the protection of life and property, the preservation of peace, order and safety, the enforcement of local, state and federal law, and federal security directives.

The Rhode Island Airport Police enforces Local, State, and Federal laws primarily at T.F. Green International Airport, the state's only commercial air-carrier airport.  The Patrol Division maintains a presence at Green Airport.  We also have enforcement authority on a statewide level with regard to aviation related matters.  Our post-9/11 duties also include active anti- and counter-terrorism measures.

Investigative Unit
The Inspector’s office, for the Airport Police, handles various responsibilities throughout the department. The Inspector is the Detective for the department, and his main duties are the investigating, processing, and prosecution of all incidents and arrests that happen throughout the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.
If at any time you have information regarding an incident at the airport, or you would like to request a copy of a report, you may reach Inspector Joe Ottaviano at (401) 691-2420.

The Segway Patroller program at T.F. Green Airport (PVD) supplements the traditional foot patrol. The program is designed to improve response time in an airport setting, while facilitating increased public interaction.

The RI Airport Police has maintained a certified Police Cyclist Unit since 1999.  The unit consists of police officers, who have undergone a rigorous week-long certification process through the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA).  Sergeant Michael Mefford, a certified IPMBA Instructor, oversees this unit and  for many years, offers the Police Certification Course to police departments throughout RI as part of nationwide return to the "Community Policing" effort.

The department works closely with the United States Secret Service and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to provide protection of any dignitaries that arrive or depart from any airport in the state.

In cooperation with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the department has several NEDCTP K-9 teams at T.F. Green Airport.  These K-9 teams are also used to assist local, state and federal law enforcement agencies when requested.

The department utilizes several certified narcotic detection K-9's at the Airport. These narcotic K-9's are also used to assist local, state, and federal agencies when requested.

The dispatch communications center provides radio communication to our officers in the field, ARFF units, airport operations, and all other airport services and operates 24 hours a day/seven days a week. This center also receives and fields thousands of calls a year pertaining to a wide variety of requests for information and assistance from the public, airport tenants, and other public safety agencies. All calls for service are processed through the use of a computer-aided dispatch system.

The Badging Office processes all applicants that require security credentials.  This allows certain individuals to access secured areas of the airport.  The department is responsible for the processing of all Criminal History Record Checks (CHRC's), Security Threat Assessment (STA) information, as well as security testing.
