Princeton Indiana's population is just under 9,000 people. Call volume is anywhere from 800-1,000 a month. The city of Princeton offers growth and opportunities.

The Department currently has K9 unit, ERT (Emergency Response Team), Drone Operations, Crime Scene Unit, Cops Connecting with kids (Disney World Trip), Unlimited Training opportunities, Take home vehicle (once academy is completed - if not a lateral)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be US Citizen
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, but not older than 40 at the time of appointment
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid Indiana Driver's License
  • No felony convictions
  • Must be able to possess firearms

Job Description/General Duties:

Patrol will generally be conducted by uniformed patrolmen in clearly marked law enforcement vehicles in assigned jurisdictional areas of City of Princeton. The function of patrol is to respond to calls for assistance and reports of criminal activity, act as a deterrent to crime, enforce state and local laws, identify community needs, provide support and assistance to the community and respond to emergencies.

Patrol services include, but are not limited to:

  • Responding to emergency calls for service.
  • Apprehending criminal offenders.
  • Providing mutual aid and assistance to other agencies for emergency and law enforcement-related activities.
  • Patrol that is directed at the prevention of criminal acts, traffic violations and collisions, the maintenance of public order and the discovery of hazardous situations or conditions.
  • Responding to reports of both criminal and non-criminal acts.
  • Responding to routine calls for service, such as public assistance or public safety.
  • Traffic direction and control.
  • Crime prevention activities, such as residential inspections, business inspections and community presentations.
  • Community-oriented policing and problem-solving activities including the application of resources to improve or resolve specific problems or situations and contacting or assisting members of the public in a positive way.
  • The application of resources to specific problems or situations within the community that may be improved or resolved by community-oriented policing and problem-solving strategies.

  • Shift differential pay .25/hour more for evening shift - .50 an hour more for midnight shift
  • Longevity pay $150/ year of service (Capped at 20 years of service)

Testing Requirements:

  • POST Test minimum passing score 75% for all new entry level officers
  • POST Test waived for lateral officers

Hiring Process:

  • POST Test written exam 75% or higher for new applicants - Waived for laterals
  • Physical fitness test based on ILEA exit standards
  • Lateral qualifying officers have modified Physical fitness test
  • Background investigation
  • PERF testing (Psych exam, medical etc)
  • Officer Panel interview
  • Merit Board interview
