Shippensburg Police Department serves Shippensburg Borough in both Cumberland and Franklin County. Shippensburg is the oldest community of the Cumberland Valley, and the second oldest west of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. The population of Shippensburg Borough is approximately 5,638 and significantly increases with visitors and students attending Shippensburg University. Shippensburg Borough is 2.038 square miles. 8,800 complaints handled annually.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Possession of a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Be physically or mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license
  • Must have reached their 20th birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications
  • Current Police Academy Training Act 120 Certification or waiver
  • No disqualifying criminal convictions (Misdemeanor 2 or higher)

The patrol officer performs law enforcement and crime prevention work for the protection of life and property; maintains order, enforces laws and ordinances, protects life and property within the Borough by performing a combination of duties.  These duties include suppressant crime patrol, directing traffic, issuing citations, and summonses, investigating traffic accidents, apprehending and arresting suspects, processing prisoners, and protecting crimes scenes.  The patrol officer also performs general and specific assignments from superiors’ officers in accordance with established rules and procedures, provides quality police service to all citizens, visitors, and businesses in an efficient and professional manner.
