** HIRING NOTICE **
SPECIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER – SLEO II
The River Edge Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the part time position of Special Law Enforcement Officer – Class II (SLEO II).
SLEO Class II shall be authorized to execute full powers and duties similar to that of a permanent, regular appointed full-time police officer. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: patrol functions, traffic control, administrative assignments, spectator control, court security, school security, and similar duties.
Salary: $45.00 per hour
Work Schedule: Approximately 20-30 hours a week
Qualifications:
- Citizen of United States.
- Resident of New Jersey with a valid New Jersey driver license.
- Between the ages of 18 & 65.
- Speak and understand the English language.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Physically fit to perform the duties of a police officer.
- No criminal record.
- Prior to appointment the selected candidate must be able to successfully pass:
- Extensive background investigation
- Oral board interview by Police Department and Mayor & Council.
- Comprehensive medical examination.
- Successful passing of physical training test.
- Psychological examination.
- Drug screening.
- The applicant must either possess a NJ PTC SLEO II certification or successfully attend a NJ PTC certified police academy and obtain a SLEO II certification.
- The Borough of River Edge / Police Department is willing to send a qualified applicant to a police academy to obtain the SLEO II certification.
- The applicant may also be a retired regular NJ law enforcement officer, of less than three years, who retired in good standing, and less than 65 years of age.
