Job Announcement:

The Hackettstown Police Department is currently seeking professional and qualified applicants for the position of Class II Special Police Officer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A current Class II officer who has successfully completed a Class II NJ PTC course and is not under contract with their municipality.

OR

To qualify for a Class II license, an applicant must be:

  • Age: At least 21 years of age
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen (naturally-born or naturalized).
  • Education: High school diploma or GED, many agencies require additional college credits or a degree.
  • Driver’s License: Valid New Jersey driver’s license upon appointment.
  • Veteran Status: No dishonorable discharge.
  • Background: No felony or domestic violence convictions; must meet PTC moral character standards.
  • Applicant must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, physical agility test, medical examination, drug screening, and psychological examination.

Applicant must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position in accordance with Police Training Commission standards.

Compensation & Schedule

The salary range for the Class II Special Police Officer position is $36.32 per hour. This is a part-time position, with a maximum schedule of up to 32 hours per week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting daytime and early evening foot patrols within the Main Street area; performing traffic control and parking enforcement; staffing special events; working third-party overtime assignments; and performing other related public safety duties as assigned.

Enhanced foot patrol within Hackettstown is intended to strengthen public safety, increase police visibility, enhance overall quality of life on Main St, and promote meaningful community engagement. The Class II Special Police officer will play a critical role in advancing these objectives and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for residents, business owners, and visitors.
