Special Law Enforcement Officer CLASS III (SLEO III)
Position: Special Law Enforcement Officer Class III (SLEO III)
The Westwood Police Department, Bergen County is accepting applications for the position of SLEO III.
The successful candidate is highly motivated, well organized self-directed professional who embraces new challenges and collaborates well with team members, accepts responsibility, and sees assignments to completion; exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate will be privy to highly confidential matters and transactions and must display the utmost discretion and professionalism.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a retired law enforcement officer less than 65 years of age, who served as a duly qualified, fully-trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county of this State or as a member of the New Jersey State Police and was separated from that prior service in good standing, within 3 years of appointment to this position. *
- Must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position, determined in accordance with the Police Training Commission.
- Must possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification or New Jersey State Police Academy Certification.
- Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver License.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation to include a medical exam, drug screen and psychological exam.
- School Resource Officer Training will be required within one year of employment. Preference may be given to officers who are already SRO trained and have served as an SRO.
*The applicant must be able to produce a letter of good standing issued by the agency from which the officer retired that lists the date and type of retirement.
Starting Salary for the Class III Special Police Officer shall be $40.00 per hour, and he/she shall work a schedule of 40 hours per week, to be determined, and only when school is in session.
