Saddle River - SLEO Class III

QUALIFICATIONS

• 1.    No person shall be appointed as a member of the Police Department unless they are a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of New Jersey during the time of the appointment.
• 2.    Must be a retired law enforcement officer, less than 65 years of age, who served as a duly qualified, fully trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county of this State or as a member of New Jersey State Police and was separated from that prior service in good standing, within (3) years of appointed to this position.  
• 3.    Must be able to produce a letter of good stand issued by the agency from which they retired to include the date and type of retirement.
• 4.    Is able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently and has a high school diploma or equivalent. Is sound in body and of good health. Is of good moral character.
• 5.    Must successfully pass a background investigation to include a medical exam, drug screen and psychological exam, similar to that which is required of all full-time police officers;
• 6.    No person shall be appointed as a member of the Police Department who has been convicted of any crime constituting an indictable offense or who has been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty which would make him/her unfit to perform the duties of the office of special law enforcement officer;
• 7.    Complies with all other requirements set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:14-146.8 et seq., the administrative rules and regulations of the Departments of Law and Public Safety and the general ordinances of the Borough of Saddle River;
• 8.    No person shall be appointed as a member of the Police Department except in compliance with state statutes;
• 9.    Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license at the time of appointment;
• 10. Previous members of the Saddle River Police Department shall be given preference for appointments as special officers. Others certified as special officers by the New Jersey Police Training Commission may be considered for appointment at the discretion of the appointing authority.
