PARKING CONTROL OFFICER

The Town of Hanover seeks responsible, trustworthy, and reliable applicants for a full-time civilian Parking Control Officer position, with morning and afternoon crossing guard responsibilities during the school year. This position has a starting hourly rate of $17.35 depending upon experience. Hiring is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities:

Parking Control Officers are responsible for patrolling and inspecting public parking areas while on foot, walking in excess of five miles a shift. Using handheld computers and printers, they enforce violations of the parking ordinance through the issuance of improper parking notices. Using a tire clamp, they immobilize vehicles identified as scofflaws. Parking Control Officers repair and maintain parking meters, as well as collect parking coin from them for deposit, routinely lifting containers of coin weighing over fifty-pounds. Parking Control Officers must be able to communicate in a friendly manner, interacting respectfully and tactfully with the public, especially in situations that sometimes become confrontational. During the school year, Parking Control Officers are assigned to morning and afternoon school traffic direction and crossing guard duty. 

Qualifications:       

The selected candidate must possess knowledge of applicable parking ordinances, regulations and traffic laws, and apply the proper procedures to issue improper parking notices. The ability to verbally communicate well with the public, supervisors, co-­workers and employees in a friendly, patient, tactful and respectful manner is crucial to this position. Knowledge of the Town's geographical area and street names,  vehicle makes and models, and the ability to remember locations, and vehicle license plate numbers as it pertains to parking enforcement. The ability to use common equipment that's associated with parking enforcement duties such as smartphones, handheld computers, cameras, immobilization devices and tools associated with meter installation and maintenance. The ability to walk several miles a shift, sometimes in extreme weather conditions, and the ability to frequently lift objects weighing over fifty pounds. The ability to direct traffic and assist people to safely cross a busy street is required. The selected candidate must hold a valid driver's license and be able to operate Town vehicles. 

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent. 1-3 years of experience working outdoors, with computers, customer service experience preferred.
