MISSION:
Each member of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office will provide services with compassion, impartially enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce the fear of crime and develop working partnerships within our community to build trust.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides individual and group counseling to inmates in accordance with mental health standards and treatment protocols.
- Conducts mental health assessments, screenings, and crisis evaluations for inmates referred by staff, medical, or self-report.
- Develops, implements, and updates individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and inmate needs.
- Responds to mental health crisis and provides suicide risk assessments and interventions.
- Collaborates with medical staff, custody staff, and outside mental health agencies to ensure coordinated care.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of all inmate encounters and clinical services.
- Provides consultation and training to correctional staff regarding mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and inmate behavior management.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to review cases and ensure continuity of care.
- Monitors inmates on suicide watch or other special mental health observation status.
- Refers inmates for psychiatric evaluation or medication management when appropriate.
- Assists with discharge planning and coordination of aftercare resources upon inmate release.
- Follows applicable laws, regulations, and jail policies related to inmate rights, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
- Demonstrates sound judgement and professionalism in managing volatile, stressful, or unpredictable situations.
- Maintains a working knowledge of trauma-informed care and evidence based correctional mental health practice.
- Upholds high moral and ethical standards and represents the Clark County Sheriff’s Office with integrity.
- Any other duties assigned by the Sheriff or his designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- One to two years of experience in clinical or correctional mental health preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, prepare business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages as well as draw and interpret bar graphs.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid and current State of Ohio licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Social Worker (LSW),
- Valid and current State of Ohio Operator’s License.
- Documented and demonstrated academic achievement.
- Must be able to maintain all certifications and licenses required to perform this job.

Generally, work is performed indoors in an office setting. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods at a computer. The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move office and other departmental supplies. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

- Works within a secure correctional facility.\
- Physical acts requiring strength and endurance may be required.
- May work during inclement weather and emergency situations.
