The City of Worcester is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Director of Emergency Communications. The position is responsible for the management and operation of the Emergency Communications Center handling Police, Fire, and E911 calls for services as well as the coordination of the City's Emergency Management Program. The successful candidate will: facilitate the effective delivery of emergency communication services utilizing computer-aided dispatch equipment; manage the 800 MHz trunked radio communication networks and associated hardware, software and equipment; determine operational policy and guidelines; develop Emergency Management procedures to ensure the highest levels of preparedness, response and recovery; direct the City’s Emergency Operations Center; and perform departmental administration, budget, personnel management, and grant administration.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Two years of experience in police and fire communications operation as a supervisor
- At least five years related experience
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS in Public Safety Communications, Fire Science Administration, Emergency Management, or Criminal Justice.
- Prior experience in management and operation of a major municipal Emergency Operations Center
- NIMS ICS 400 and EOC management certification.
A combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position will be considered. Successful candidate must obtain state 911 certification upon employment. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
