Established in 1925, the Northfield Police Department has been dedicated to safeguarding our community with integrity, dedication, and exceptional service. Our department, consisting of 24 sworn police officers, clerical staff, and school crossing guards, operates with a commitment to professionalism and vigilance.

We emphasize proactive engagement, providing round-the-clock law enforcement services to ensure the safety of Northfield. Our Uniformed Patrol Division is on duty 24/7, while our Administrative Division, including the Detective Bureau and Records Bureau, supports thorough investigations and meticulous record-keeping.

Our team collaborates seamlessly to address the evolving needs of our community, always striving to enhance safety and build trust. With a legacy of dedication and a focus on continuous improvement, we are committed to serving Northfield with excellence.

About Us

Northfield, located in Atlantic County, New Jersey, is a vibrant city with a rich history and a close-knit community. As of the 2020 census, Northfield has a population of 8,434, reflecting a slight decrease from previous years but showcasing a history of growth and resilience.

Founded by Jeremiah Leeds, Northfield was incorporated as a city on March 21, 1905, following its separation from Egg Harbor Township. The city’s historical roots and its evolution reflect its enduring character and development over the years.

Known as the "Gateway to the Shore," Northfield enjoys a strategic location just over the bridge from the scenic beaches, approximately 7 miles west of Atlantic City. It borders Pleasantville, Egg Harbor Township, and Linwood, and is part of the South Jersey region. This area is included in the Atlantic City-Hammonton metropolitan statistical area, which is also a part of the larger Philadelphia-Reading-Camden combined statistical area and the Delaware Valley.
