Serving with Honor and Community Focus

The Camden County Prosecutor is a constitutional officer appointed by New Jersey’s Governor. According to the state constitution, “County prosecutors shall be nominated and appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Their term of office shall be five years and they shall serve until the appointment and qualification of their respective successors.” (N.J. Constitution, Article 7, section 2, paragraph 1). New Jersey law also states that “Each prosecutor shall be vested with the same powers and be subject to the same penalties, within his county, as the attorney general shall by law be vested with or subject to, and he shall use all reasonable and lawful diligence for the detection, arrest, indictment and conviction of offenders against the laws.” The State Office of Counterterrorism has also designated the Prosecutor as the coordinator of counter-terrorism efforts for local police departments in the County.

The Prosecutor’s Office investigates and prosecutes all indictable crime in this county of about 523,700 citizens. Camden County, which includes the urban environment of Camden, inner-ring suburbs and still-growing bedroom communities, is a diverse region in Southern New Jersey. As a result the Prosecutor’s Office’s dedicated, professional staff must be flexible and quick to adjust to the needs of its residents.

The range of cases pursued by this office varies widely.  For example, the Narcotics Unit participates in multi-agency task forces designed to target the county’s drug trade. The Special Prosecutions Unit targets corruption and white-collar crime. The Special Victims Unit handles child abuse cases.

In each case, and in the thousands of others handled each year, the prosecutor’s office staff works to guarantee safety in its jurisdiction and justice for the county’s citizens.
