OPENING for Special Law Enforcement Officers Class I (SLEO I)

The Leonia Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Special Law Enforcement Officer Class I (SLEO I).  Duties of SLEO I personnel include, but are not limited to:

• Parking and Traffic Enforcement
• Traffic direction and control
• Crossings
• Security/spectator control at special events
• Extra duty assignments
• Clerical duties

This is a a full time position with a salary range of $35,000 to $65,000. .

Minimum qualifications for SLEO I personnel include:

• Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
• Must be a resident of the State of New Jersey during their term of appointment
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to read, write and speak the English language well and have a high school diploma or its equivalent
• Must be sound in body and of good health and be able to perform the physical functions of the duties assigned
• Must be of good moral character and shall not have been convicted of any crime or offense involving moral turpitude (dishonesty) or a crime of offense that would render him/her unfit for duty
• Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license

All SLEO I personnel must successfully complete a Police Training Commission approved basic training course.  Candidates that have been selected by the Leonia Police Department and who have not already completed the training course will be assigned to the next basic training course. Candidates with current certification are preferred.
